The city is known for rich culture and outstanding people. It is the hometown of Chiyou, one of the three great ancestors of the Chinese nation, and one of cradles of Hunan culture. A variety of long-standing and well-reserved culture originates from here, including Meishan culture, Chiyou culture, Cultivation and Reading culture and Longshan medicine culture, as well as distinctive folk arts like Xinhua folk songs, Meishan martial arts, paper-cutting and Nuo Opera, which endow the city with the titles of “the hometown of Chinese martial arts”, “the hometown of Chinese poetry” and “the hometown of Chinese eminent female figures”.
With three national 4A tourist attractions (Meishan Dragon Palace, Zeng Guofan’s former residence and Ziquejie Terrace) as well as more than 70 boutique tourist attractions, Loudi serves as a unique emerging tourist destination in Central Hunan.
The city features excellent location and convenient transportation. Located in the geometric center of Hunan Province, it is not only an important city in the one-hour economic circle surrounding Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan urban agglomeration, but also one of the experimental areas for comprehensive supporting reform of two-oriented society. Hunan-Guizhou Railway and Shanghai-Kunming High-speed Railway run through the city from east to west, while Luoyang-Zhanjiang Railway extends from north to south. Together with these main lines, a railway network has been formed with 40 special railway lines connecting major factories and mines in the city.
At present, Loudi is stepping into an era of high speed, with the construction of a number of highways planned and finished and the reconstruction of national and provincial roads completed. In addition, the construction of Loudi Airport has entered the preliminary stage and the Zijiang River water transport has been comprehensively upgraded.
With abundant and various mineral resources, Loudi is an important industrial base of new energy and raw materials in Hunan and even the whole country. among the 48 kinds of mineral resources that have been proved to be exploitable , 25 kinds have been developed. Specifically, antimony ore reserves rank first in the world, while coal, dolomite, marble and other non-metallic reserves top in Hunan. It also enjoys the reputation of “antimony capital of the world”, “Jiangnan coal sea” as well as “modern steel city”.
The city boasts superior platforms with great potential. Loudi Economic Development Zone has been officially approved by the State Council as a state-level economic development zone, in addition to five provincial-level development parks. In recent years, it has formulated regulations and policies to encourage investment and entrepreneurship, further optimizing the investment environment.
